What is memory?
Memory chips are made up of millions of a capacitor and transistor integrated circuits, data can be stored or used for handling code. Memory chips can through random access memory (RAM) temporary save memory, but can be by read-only memory (ROM) permanent memory. ROM contains permanent storage that the processor can read but not modify data. Memory chips have different size and shape. Some can be connected directly, some need special drive. Memory chips are essential components in the computer and electronic equipment, including memory storage plays a key role.
There are several different types of memory chips:
Dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chips, also known as volatile memory chips, because once the electricity, they will lose the memory. DRAM can only transmit single memory, need to constantly refresh, prevent memory loss.
Static random access memory (SRAM) chip: normally used in portable battery-operated devices nonvolatile chip. Unlike DRAM, they don't need a refresh, and will not immediately lost memory when power off.
First in first out (FIFO) memory chips: mainly used for the transmission between different types of equipment.
Can erase the programmable read-only memory (EPROM) : these chips in the memory can be erased when exposed to ultraviolet light. Then these chips can be reprogrammed in order to obtain a new set of data values.
Programmable read-only memory (PROM) memory: unlike other programmable memory chips, they can only programming at a time. Content can't through electronic or ultraviolet erasing.
