SK Hynix announced on Tuesday that it has completed the development of a low-power dual-data rate LPDDR5X chip based on the High k Metal Gate (HKMG) technology and started marketing it. According to the introduction, the chip is the industry's first mobile DRAM based on HKMG innovation.
This is the first time that SK Hynix has applied HKMG process to mobile DRAM, achieving 8.5Gbps running speed, 33 percent higher than the previous generation, and significantly reducing power consumption.
The power consumption of the new generation LPDDR5X chip is 25% lower than that of the previous generation, meeting the ultra-low voltage range of 1.01V to 1.12V set by JEDEC, which can achieve the highest power efficiency in the industry and save more power.
Power consumption is the most important factor when it comes to mobile chips. After all, mobile phones currently have limited battery life, so in order to keep them going for as long as possible, manufacturers are looking for ways to maintain performance while minimizing power consumption.
